Santa Monica, California — Santa Monica Public Library
presents Love or Something Like It with Deirdre Shaw on Wednesday,
September 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Library’s MLK Jr. Auditorium, 601 Santa
Monica Boulevard.
Deirdre Shaw discusses her debut novel, Love or Something Like It, "a
wryly funny, refreshingly honest story about an emotionally damaged young woman
muddling through young adulthood" (Boston Globe). Shaw's
novel takes readers on a journey through L.A. as seen through the eyes of Lacey
Brennan, "a charming and delightful character whose gentle humor and
insight makes reading pure pleasure" (Tampa Tribune). Shaw, a
fiction instructor at UCLA Extension, will also offer advice and answer
questions about how to start writing, get an agent, and get
published. A book sale and signing will follow the program.
Deirdre Shaw’s nonfiction has appeared in The
New York Times, The New York Observer, and The Philadelphia
Inquirer. Her fiction has been published in Swink and Folio,
and was included in the New Short Fiction Series Emerging Voices Group Show in
Los Angeles in 2005. Deirdre was awarded a 2004 Hackney Literary Award
for National Short Story. In addition to writing fiction, she also writes
for the CW television series Life Unexpected. Her website is www.deirdreshaw.com.
This program is free and open to the
